Pastor Derrick Norris
Pastor Derrick Norris is a retired Navy veteran who, in 2005, felt God’s calling to Central Oahu where he became the pastor of Mililani Baptist Church. Here, he leads a body of believers located in close proximity to several military installations. A skilled communicator with a master’s degree in theological studies, Derrick has helped Mililani Baptist Church focus on delivering the message of Jesus Christ to people who need to hear about His love, forgiveness, and opportunity to make peace with God and find meaning in their lives. One of Derrick’s passions is helping Christians grow in their faith, knowing that it is not always easy. Here is one of his favorite quotes on the topic, from the book “Radical†by Dr. David Platt: “Radical obedience to Christ is not easy; it is dangerous. It is not smooth sailing aboard a luxury liner; it is sacrificial duty about a troop carrier. It’s not comfort, not health, not wealth, and not prosperity in this world. Radical obedience to Christ risks losing all these things. But in the end, such risk finds its reward in Christ. And that is enough for us.†In his almost six years here, Derrick has helped Mililani Baptist Church become one of the largest in the Hawaii-Pacific Baptist Convention. It is a leader in baptisms and giving to programs that spread the Good News of Jesus Christ throughout the Islands and the world beyond. Derrick enjoys reading, golfing, running, hiking, cycling and staying current with friends and family on Facebook. He has been married to Rebecca, the love of his life and best friend, for 33 years. "Repent, then, and trun to God, so that yo9ur sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that he may send the Christ, who has been appointed for you-even Jesus" (Acts 3:19-20)Peter just healed a crippled man at the temple gate, and a crowd came running to see what had taken place. Peter preached to the crowd and invited them to repent so that "times of refreshing" might come from the Lord. And many did; "Many who heard the message believed , and the number of men grew to about five thousand" (Acts 4:4). the early churc was in the midst of a spiritual awakening. Not long before on the Day of Pentecost three thousand accepted Peter's message and were added to the church. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Eric Myers
Eric Myers is the new worship director for the church. Prior to coming to Mililani Baptist he served for over eleven years as a worship pastor in Texas and Missouri. Eric holds two bachelor's degrees from Arlington Baptist College in the areas of Biblical Studies and Music Education. He also has a Master's Degree in Music from the University of Texas in Arlington. Currently he is pursuing a Master of Divinity from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. Eric is married to Michelle and they have two sons Dylan and Austin. As a family they enjoy doing just about anything outdoors. Eric is also a professional songwriter and composer who writes for artists, TV, film and radio. Weekly his music is used in churches the U.S., Canada and Europe. Recently, his song Your Love Is So Amazing, was featured in Worship Leader Magazines Song Discovery volume 75 and also won the Billboard Music Song of the Year in the Christian music category.
